Heron Study Participant Information

We are inviting you to participate in our research study trying to understand how a short period of overeating affects our hormones
If you agree to take part in this study, you will be invited to the Translational Research Facility (TRF), Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge .
If you agree to go ahead, we will want to see you three times: 1) for a pre-study screening visit, 2) for the main study and 3) two weeks after the main study for a check-up.
1. Pre-study visit – a pre-study visit for some routine blood samples. This may involve an overnight visit so that you can get used to wearing the sleep monitoring equipment.
2. Main study visit – we would like you to stay in the Translational Research Facility for a maximum of 12 days and 11 nights, nights during which we will give you high calorie food to see how your hormones change with overeating. The research will involve:
• Scans
• Measurements
• Questionnaires
• Blood samples
• 2 spinal taps (optional)
3. Post-study visit – 2 weeks following the completion of the study, we would like to
invite you back for a short follow up medical check.
In view of your time commitment, you will be compensated with £800 at the completion of the study. If you would like to opt in to our sub-study, you will be compensated with £1000 at the completion of the study.
To be eligible, you should meet the following criteria:
• 18-50 years old
• Not smoking
• Not pregnant
• BMI 18.5-25 kg/m2
• No chronic diseases (diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc)
• Maximum 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week
